Smart Sub Player — Privacy Policy
Smart Sub Player is built to keep your media and your activity private. All AI subtitle generation and translation runs on your device. Imported videos and generated captions stay on your device, encrypted at rest by iOS, unless you explicitly turn on an optional path you control.
01 Information we collect
Smart Sub Player does not require an account and collects no contact details, location, photos, or microphone audio. The data described below is the minimum needed to operate the app:
- Device identifier — a random, per-install id stored in your iCloud Keychain. It is used only to restore purchases and to enforce the free-tier quota. It is not linked to your identity and is not used for tracking.
- Purchase history — handled by Apple and RevenueCat to verify and restore your Pro entitlement. We receive whether you are subscribed, not what you watch.
02 Data stored on your device
Your video library, generated subtitles, bookmarks, playback progress, and app settings are saved only in the app's private storage on your device. iOS encrypts this data at rest. None of it is uploaded for AI processing — transcription and translation happen locally.
03 Optional network paths (you control these)
By default the app performs no AI work over the network. Two optional paths exist only when you use them:
- Paste-a-link offline save — when you paste a direct link to a video you have the
right to save, our backend gateway (
subplayer-be.dep.app) resolves the file and streams it back to your device. The downloaded artefact is deleted from gateway storage within 24 hours by an automated job. The gateway never sees your library or your subtitles. - Bring-your-own-key cloud translation — if you enable this and provide your own API key (e.g. Gemini or OpenRouter), subtitle text you choose to translate may be sent to that provider under your account and your provider's terms. Your videos and audio are never sent; only the caption text for the translation you requested.
04 What we do not do
Smart Sub Player contains no advertising, no third-party analytics, no crash-reporting SDKs, and no tracking frameworks. We do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), do not request App Tracking Transparency, and do not read your clipboard. Each paste-link save requires an explicit tap; the app does not auto-monitor the clipboard.
05 Permissions
The app requests only the permissions it needs: audio playback (so sound continues when the device is locked or backgrounded), and document/share-sheet access so you can import your own video files. Microphone access is never requested — subtitles are generated from the video's audio track entirely on-device.
06 Copyright & takedowns
Smart Sub Player is a personal-use media player. Users bring their own files or paste direct links to videos they already have the right to save. We do not host, index, or reference specific third-party platforms in the app. If you believe content was saved through the gateway in violation of copyright, contact app@subplayer-be.dep.app and we will act on it.
07 Children
The app is rated 4+ and collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
08 Changes to this policy
If the app ever changes in a way that affects privacy, we will update this page and revise the "last updated" date above. The current version always reflects how the app behaves.
