01 How do I add a video?
Open the Library tab and tap Import. You can import from Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, Photos, or the system share sheet. Videos are copied into your private library and stay on your device. Supported formats include MP4, MKV, MOV, M4V, and AVI.
02 How do I generate subtitles?
Open any video and subtitles are generated on your device — your audio never leaves the phone. Generation runs in the background; the language packs you've selected (under Settings → Language Packs) determine which languages the app recognises. Free tier allows a limited number of generations per week.
03 How does translation work?
Set Settings → Captions → Mode to Translate and pick a target language. Translation runs on-device using Apple's Translation engine, so it works offline and privately. You can show the original and the translation side by side. An optional bring-your-own-key cloud path (Gemini or OpenRouter) is available under Settings if you want a different model — your key stays on your device and is never sent to us.
04 What is "paste a link"?
In the Downloads tab you can paste a direct link to a video you already have the right to save, and Smart Sub Player will keep it for offline viewing. Free tier: one save per day with a size cap. Pro: unlimited saves, one at a time. The link is resolved by our backend gateway and the downloaded artefact is deleted from gateway storage within 24 hours.
05 How do I restore my Pro purchase?
Go to Settings → Pro plan and tap Restore Purchases. You can also restore from the paywall. Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID used to buy. If restore reports "nothing to restore", check your subscription status at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.
06 Subtitles or translation seem inaccurate
Subtitles and translations are produced by on-device AI models and may contain errors — they are a convenience, not a professional or accessibility-grade transcript. For tricky audio, try enabling a different language pack, adjusting the target language, or using the optional cloud translation path with your own key.
07 Privacy
Smart Sub Player runs all AI work on your device and contains no ads or analytics. Read the full privacy policy.
